We tend to picture growth as adding. More effort. More goals. More weight on the bar.
But some of the heaviest things we carry aren’t on the bar at all.
The grudge you keep rehearsing. The story that you’re “behind.” The pressure to make every week look impressive. The pressure to do everything perfect or to fit everything in.
You can be strong and still be tired — not because you’re weak, but because you’ve been holding too much for too long. You can be strong and still take time to rest.
This week, try noticing what you’re carrying that nobody asked you to. The self-talk after a missed session or missed lift. The guilt about resting. The need to explain yourself.
Strength isn’t only about how much you can pick up. It’s also about being honest enough to set down what’s quietly wearing you out.
When you walk into the gym, you don’t have to bring all of it with you. Leave it at the door. Let one hour be just the work in front of you — the bar, the breath, the next rep.
Here’s your gentle challenge: pick one thing this week you’ve been gripping out of habit, and loosen your hold on it. See how much lighter the climb feels when you’re not carrying it too.
